The Division of Polar Programs (PLR) and the Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE) have released a Dear Colleague Letter (NSF 14-122), encouraging proposals that make use of NSF's investment in polar sciences and infrastructure for the benefit of science education and the development of the next generation of polar scientists.

Due to the potential operational, environmental and safety hazards, the use of any UAV, drone, or remotely piloted aircraft in Antarctica by U.S. Antarctic Program (USAP) personnel is prohibited without specific authorization.
